This page is a simulation of our Halloween installation for 2007. For years, I wanted to create a Halloween display that relied on projected images, and with this project I finally got the chance. The setup consisted of 8 foot faux stone columns made from plywood, covered with stone-printed paper, and topped with small flaming cauldrons. The left-three columns were spanned with 5ft high translucent black theater scrim which served as an ethereal screen. A digital projector placed at the front of our yard projected random static and animated images onto the scrim. The images almost appeared to float in midair as our house was visible through the scrim. While not perfect (the bottom edge of the projection was visible on the house), the effect was quite satisfying, especially when combined with creepy audio. The final result was near impossible to photograph, but this simulation demonstrates the idea.
